Description

The READY lab at Carleton University, directed by Dr. Andrea Howard, is recruiting high school students to participate in a Youth Advisory Council that will provide critical feedback and guidance to our research team. We are launching a new program of research that will aim to learn more about how young people use social media and how their online activities influence their daily lives in good and not so good ways.

Youth Advisory Council volunteers will meet once per month with the research team and will be asked for their feedback and opinions about our study design and data collection plans. You will also help us by discussing current social media trends, interpreting results, and eventually providing feedback on our presentations to schools and parent groups.

How will this opportunity benefit the volunteer?
The Youth Advisory Council is an opportunity for high school students who are passionate about social media to help shape important research that could impact their peers and how young people engage with their social media accounts. With approval from your school principal, Ontario students are also eligible to earn credit toward their Community Involvement Hours for graduation.
How will the organization benefit?
We need your voices! Our team can't do a good job of learning about teens' digital lives in a research study unless we have first-hand expert knowledge from teens who use social media. Monthly council meetings will help us to make key decisions about our strategies for talking to research participants and interpreting the information they share with us.
Volunteer location:
From time to time, Youth Advisory Council meetings may take place on the Carleton University campus
