Youth Shelter Overnight Support
Description
Overnights volunteer hours run from 11:30 PM – 9:30 AM Friday, Saturday 11:30 PM –
8:30 AM, Sunday 11:30 PM – 9:00 AM, Monday Nights 11:30 PM – 9:00 AM and Tuesday
Nights from 11:30 PM – 9:00 AM. Around 11:30 PM staff and volunteers begin to
transition the Drop In to the Shelter portion by encouraging youth to set up their beds
and aid in taking down drop in activities and putting away food. We offer a relatively
low key environment with a strong emphasis on building healthy relationships. Help
is also provided in the form of low key mental health support, conflict management
and pastoral care with informal referrals being made to deeper community support
where indicated. Youth staying overnight are encouraged to utilize this time for
sleeping but crisis intervention may be necessary during overnight shifts. Overnight
volunteers support staff supervisor in tear down the next morning. This position will
require climbing stairs.
